Another take on the 70's French Vampire flick
Sure there has been many French vampire flicks but nothing come close to this little flick by Jean-Louis van Belle. The closest film i could compare it to would be Nicolas Cage's Vampires Kiss that was made 17 years later in 1988. I wouldn't be surprised if Sadist with Red Teeth was the starting point for that eighties flick because there is a lot of similarities between these two flicks. Both have male leads who think they are turning into a vampire. They both visit a joke shop and purchase fake vampire teeth and both have a psychologist to deal with there dilemma. This film sure ain't a Jean Rollins vampire flick. It feels more like a collage of visuals and has a more light hearted whimsical feel. It's not very often you come across a film unlike anything you have seen before. We need more experiences like this on DVD today as there are thousands of still undiscovered treasures out there, especially from across the pond. Big ups to Mondo Macabro for putting out these hidden...
Amazing foreign find
This is just the kind of film you hope DVD companies will unearth: movies you've never heard of before that can supply you with something completely different. In this case two wonderfully weird French films. And what's more the extras are fantastic, as you really get to know the director, who proves worthy of a film in himself. Highly recommended.
`Made Me Wanna Drive A Stake Through My Heart...
As a fan of most Mondo Macabro releases (except the ridiculous Bollywood horror and Thai midget spyflix), I was immediately excited to hear about the 'unearthing' of this French Vampire flick from 1970, paired with another 'lost' film by the same director. I obtained a pre-release copy, popped it in the trusty dvd player and guess what? They turned out to be two of the WORST FILMS I`VE EVER SEEN!! No joke, it began w/ 'Forbidden Paris', a 'Mondo Cane' rip-off that claims to be a "shockumentary revealing the strange underbelly of 1960`s Paris". If that`s the case, so was 'Mary Poppins' - there`s no sex, violence, abberant behavior, fetishes,etc. - the only forboding thing here is that viewing this crap should be forbidden. Now, onto the main feature, 'Sadist w/Red Teeth' - some imbicilic comic artist is convinced that a car accident has made him a vampire, and some equally moronic doctor and his half-wit crony fuel these delusions. He`s got a cute girlfriend who tolerates his insane...
