Celestial Navigations: Short Films of Al Jarnow

Amazing!
This DVD is amazing. That's pretty much all I can say. The films vary in subject and theme and are fun and silly and epic and contemplative and hypnotizing... I went through a phase where I watched this almost every night, and have seen it more times than I would like to admit. It's all brilliant stuff. It's also fun to turn off the sound and watch the visuals against your favorite music...

Happy Animated Childhood Memories
This DVD represents a huge body of work from the extraordinary animator, Al Jarnow. For children growing up in the 1970's (like myself) many of these short films were familiar staples on "Sesame Street" and "321 Contact" PBS shows. Jarnow's films deal with time, space, light and form, presented in an amusing way, that will delight all ages. My favorite film, "Face" creates a stop-motion life-sized portrait of Abraham Lincoln using a series of black dots on white paper, placed by children. Another favorite, "Cosmic Clock" animates the evolution of a place in sped-up time. This film is a real gem from the pre-computer animation era!
